University of California Davis Tenure‐track Assistant Professor

The Department of Anthropology at the University of California, Davis invites applicants for a Tenure‐track Assistant Professor of Tropical Conservation Science position. The successful candidate must have an active research program focusing on human dimensions of tropical conservation. Candidates whose research addresses anthropogenic change in tropical ecosystems from an explicitly ecological and/or evolutionary perspective, and who take a scientific approach to finding ways to engage multiple stakeholder groups as stewards of biodiversity in the tropics will be preferred. Ph.D. in Anthropology, Ecology or related field must be completed by the first day of courses (September 24, 2015). Applicants must demonstrate exceptional promise as scholars and teachers.

Teaching duties include four courses per academic year (quarter system) at the introductory,

advanced undergraduate, and graduate level. Courses will include an introductory course in Human

Dimensions of Tropical Conservation Science, an introductory course in Human or non‐human

primate evolutionary ecology, an upper division course in tropical conservation science and a

graduate seminar. The successful candidate would have the opportunity to participate in various

graduate groups at UC Davis, including the Graduate Group in Ecology, the Population Biology

Graduate Group, the Animal Behavior Graduate Group, the Geography Graduate Group, and would

be expected to participate in the development of a Tropical Conservation Science certificate


The ideal candidate would have strong ties to the international academic research and applied

conservation communities that could be leveraged to create student opportunities for international

training, research and collaboration, and promote representation of students from tropical

developing countries at UC Davis.
