Postdoctoral Fellow in Bioethics Research

Geisinger Health System has an exciting opportunity for post-doctoral fellow to join the Center for Translational Bioethics & Health Care Policy to conduct empirical research and report directly to Dr. Jennifer K. Wagner, Associate Director of Bioethics Research.

The fellow will be responsible for a specific research project, involving quantitative and qualitative methods, that complements Dr. Wagner’s research agenda. The fellow will be supported in professional development activities tailored to the individual’s career interests (e.g., writing manuscripts, preparing internal and external grant proposals, participating in up to two professional conferences, attending lectures and seminars, networking, mentoring, and acquiring additional skills). This post-doctoral fellowship position has a flexible start date and offers a competitive stipend with generous benefits. This is a one-year position with the possibility of renewal conditional on performance and funding.

Ideal candidates hold a Ph.D. in anthropology, bioethics, human genetics, biomedical sciences, epidemiology, or closely related field; demonstrate excellent communication, analytical, and statistical skills; have experience with a range of methods (including ethnographic participant observation, surveys, interviews, focus groups, textual analysis); and are interested in one or more of the following topics:
• Ethical, legal, and social implications and applications of genetics/omics
• Ethical, legal, and social implications and applications of mobile health technologies (including wearables, sensors, and apps)
• Race, ethnicity, and ancestry
• Identities
• Implicit biases
• Health disparities
• Precision health and personalized medicine
• Participatory research, scientific integrity, and data access/management
• Patient/Participant engagement
• Medicalization of genomic information
