Research Assistant
Position Description:
The Department of Anatomy at Midwestern University (Downers Grove, IL) seeks a full-time Research Assistant to support faculty research in primate morphology and evolution. Primary responsibilities include CT- and laser-scan processing, 3D-data collection and manipulation, supervision and training of student workers, creation of scientific figures and posters, and proofreading. Secondary responsibilities include organization of digital resources, statistical analysis, library research, scientific writing, and laboratory maintenance including purchasing of equipment and supplies.
Position Requirements:
Excellent organizational skills and proficiency with the Windows operating system and Microsoft Office are required. English-language, reasoning, and mathematical skills are also required, as is manual dexterity and comfort handling cadaveric and osteological material. A Bachelor’s degree is required and a Master’s degree is preferred. Familiarity with 3D image-processing software (e.g., GeoMagic Studio, Avizo, Mimics), micro-CT image acquisition, code-based statistical software (e.g., SAS, R), 3D printing, and Adobe Creative Suite are extremely desirable. Preference will be given to applicants with backgrounds in biological anthropology (including bioarchaeology), paleontology, anatomy, or zoology.
Physical Considerations:
Ability to lift 25 lbs.; vision correctable to 20/20 in both eyes; depth, color, and close vision; hearing correctable to normal; ability to tolerate prolonged standing or sitting; full use of fingers, hands, and arms; unrestricted movement of upper and lower extremities for bending, stretching, reaching, walking, and pushing; ability to bend over; ability to tolerate repetitive, computer-based tasks.
