University of Cape Town: Senior Lecturer/ Lecturer Department of Archaeology

We invite applications from suitably qualified people for the post of Senior Lecturer/ Lecturer in the Department of Archaeology, University of Cape Town, for appointment as soon as possible. We seek an archaeologist with a research programme that will strengthen the departmental focus on stable light isotopes. The Department of Archaeology houses the University’s stable light isotope laboratory (see www.archaeology.uct.ac.za/age/facilities/stable-light-isotope-laboratory . For additional facilities see www.science.uct.ac.za/sci/research/facilities). The successful candidate should add to the existing strengths of the Department and be able to contribute to its teaching programme. He/she will have a research programme in southern Africa, or be willing to develop a programme in this region.

Requirements include:
• A PhD in the discipline of Archaeology or a cognate discipline
• An appropriate level of university teaching experience, relative to the rank applied
• A record of research productivity and publication, relative to the rank applied

Relevant postdoctoral experience will be an advantage

Responsibilities include:

• Teaching and developing undergraduate as well as postgraduate courses in the Department
• Recruiting and supervising honours, master’s and doctoral students
• Pursuing an active research program and raising required funding
• Course convening, departmental and faculty administrative duties
