Lecturer / Instructor / Assistant Professor in Human Anatomy – Department of Biology
The Department of Biology at James Madison University invites applications for a renewable term faculty position
beginning August 25, 2018. The successful applicant will have a demonstrated commitment to teaching and learning at
both the undergraduate and graduate level in the anatomical sciences. Hiring will be at the Lecturer, Instructor or
Assistant Professor level for 10-month (Fall-Spring) appointment.
Our student-focused department requires a candidate with a commitment to and excellence in teaching. Successful
candidates will also demonstrate facility with instructional technology and an interest in collaborative teaching and
course-design. Teaching responsibilities will focus on undergraduate and graduate human anatomy and may include
opportunities to contribute to undergraduate human physiology. Experience with dissection laboratory is preferred.
Scholarly activity, academic advising, student mentoring and departmental, college, and university service, will also be
expected. Must have an M.S., Ph.D., or M.D. in related field. Experience with dissection laboratory is preferred.

About the Department
The Biology Department at James Madison University currently serves over 1000 undergraduate majors and 18 master’s
students. The 54 full time faculty members are engaged in teaching and research in a broad range of sub-disciplines. It
offers a wide variety of courses for biology majors, general education and pre-health profession majors, including a 4-
semester lab-intensive core curriculum. Our departmental focus involves active engagement of students with faculty in
mentored research experiences. The anatomy program serves undergraduate biology, kinesiology, pre-nursing and preprofessional
health students, as well as graduate programs in Physician Assistant and Occupational Therapy. Facilities
include a brand new gross anatomy dissection laboratory and state-of-the-art undergraduate anatomy laboratories with
