Job Description
The Department of Heritage & Arts’ Utah Division of State History is looking for a skilled and motivated individual to fill its Physical Anthropology Assistant. This person will assist the Ancient Human Remains Program within the Antiquities Section. If hired you will be responsible for assisting with the recovery, analysis, and determination of cultural affiliation of ancient human remains recovered from private and certain state lands in Utah.

Principle Duties
The Physical Anthropology Assistant will:

Assist with rapid response to situations involving human remains discoveries on nonfederal lands in Utah.
Assist in physical anthropological skeletal analysis on ancient human remains for the determination of cultural affiliation as required by Utah Code.
Excavate human remains when necessary.
Assist with the operations of the osteology and archeology laboratory and use various osteometric tools.
Assist in the reporting on fieldwork.
Assist with repatriation of human remains.
Update and maintain both computer and paper records fo reach set of human remains.
Assist with trainings for law enforcement and other appropriate groups.

The Ideal Candidate
The model candidate for this position is someone who:

Has experience in the excavation and recovery of human skeletal materials.
Has specialized training and experience in human skeletal analysis.
Is able to analyze human skeletal remains for the accurate identification of age at death, sex, ancestry, trauma, and pathology for the determination of cultural affiliation.
Is able to identify the morphological and metric differences and similarities among the archaeological populations of Utah.
Is able to use scientific instruments and equipment, including those used in skeletal analysis.
Can speak clearly, concisely and effectively.
Can compose and produce reports, documents and related materials.
Can write clearly and concisely.

Preference
Preferences will be give to those with a Master’s degree in physical/forensic anthropology.
