Postdoctoral Scholar in Biocultural Anthropology and Global Health

The Department of Anthropology (http://anth.la.psu.edu/) at The Pennsylvania State University seeks applicants for a Postdoctoral Scholar position to join a research project investigating biocultural dimensions of human nutrition and zoonotic disease risks in bushmeat hunting communities. The ideal candidate will have experience in collection and processing of biological samples from humans in a research or clinical setting as well as experience in qualitative and quantitative interview methods and data analysis. Excellent candidates will also have experience in global health outreach and/or education or demonstrate a strong desire to contribute to these efforts alongside of research. The Postdoctoral Scholar will also be expected to assist in analysis of existing datasets related to the project, contribute intellectually to project design, and help with the preparation of manuscripts. The position will involve travel to rural areas in Nigeria with very rough terrain and isolated and rustic living conditions. The Postdoctoral Scholar will work closely with local health workers and help manage a team of Nigerian research assistants. Cultural sensitivity, flexibility, and the ability to improvise are a must. Experience in West Africa is a plus. This is 2-year position with the possibility for extension pending excellent performance and the availability of funds. The anticipated start date for this position is Spring or Fall 2019. Qualified candidates must hold a Ph.D. or M.D. or have completed all the degree requirements by the time of appointment.
