The School of Human Evolution and Social Change (SHESC) at Arizona State University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in the archaeological study of the spread of hominins across the globe, particularly during the Pleistocene. Anticipated start date is August 2019. The candidate will help advance the research and public outreach of the Institute of Human Origins and contribute to the university’s global leadership in the study of human evolution. The successful candidate will teach graduate and undergraduate level courses, mentor both undergraduate and graduate students, conduct collaborative research, present research findings in peer-reviewed scholarly outlets and in public fora, seek external funding, and provide service to the university and appropriate scientific societies.

Minimum qualifications:
• Ph.D. in Anthropology, Archaeology or related field by the time the appointment starts
• A record of archaeological research on the spread of hominins across the globe with a focus on the Pleistocene.
• Experience in field archaeology
• The potential to develop a world-class, long-term field research program employing transdisciplinary approaches
• The potential for achieving high levels of research productivity and impact
Desired qualifications:
• A background in the hands-on study of excavated materials from archaeological sites
• Evidence of success in obtaining external funding
• Classroom and/or online teaching experience
• Experience mentoring and supporting students
• A commitment to the public communication of science
• Capacity to cross-teach and mentor students across the Anthropology degree program and other programs offered in the School such as Global Health, Applied Mathematics for the Life and Social Sciences, or Environmental Social Science
• Collaborative experiences with a broad range of sciences inside and outside anthropology
• A strong potential for success in serving the needs of diverse student populations and/or reaching out to diverse communities
