Ph.D. Candidate position in Facial Skeleton Variation, Adaptation, and Evolution

The unit PACEA “De la Préhistoire à l’Actuel: Culture, Environnement et Anthropologie” – UMR5199 at the University of Bordeaux is seeking applications for a Ph.D. candidate to join a collaborative research project investigating the variation, adaptation, and evolution of the nasal cavity, nasal airways, and paranasal sinuses in humans and animal models. The ideal candidate for this position should have studied biology, gross anatomy, and (human) evolution. Experience with (micro)CT imaging, processing, and analysis, morphometrics and multivariate statistics, software packages such as Avizo, R, and coding is a plus. The anticipated start date for the position is October 1st 2019 but is negotiable. Qualified candidates must hold a Master or B.Sc. or equivalent. Candidate selection is carried out in three stages:

Eligibility: selection of 2 admissible candidates on the basis of reference letters and individual interviews (videoconference) with the supervisor, approval by the graduate school staff.
Admission: the two eligible candidates will participate to the competitive examination held by the doctoral school ED304 Sciences et Environnements, Université de Bordeaux (https://ed-environnements.u-bordeaux.fr/en). This competitive examination to recruit Ph.D. candidates ends with interviews and a ranking of the selected applicants (https://ed-environnements.u-bordeaux.fr/content/download/15407/141880/version/4/file/Timeline%20for%20recruitment%202019.pdf). The best of the two eligible candidates, if ranked in the top of the awardees, will then enroll in the doctoral program in the autumn. The salary of the enrolled Ph.D. candidate will be paid through a fellowship of the University of Bordeaux.
