Academic Advisor
The Human Biology Program at Hunter College of the City University of New York in New York City, New York is seeking a full-time permanent Academic Advisor. The successful candidate will be responsible for advising undergraduate students in this large major and providing administrative support to the Program’s Director. Working hours are typically 9 am- 5 pm, but occasional work may be required on weekends/evenings for specific college events.
The essential job functions are:
1) Providing academic advising to prospective, new, current and transfer undergraduate students individually or in groups
2) Understanding the requirements of the Human Biology major and having the ability to effectively communicate these requirements to students
3) Working with other Hunter College advising services to ensure that college requirements, policies and procedures are followed
4) Providing students with information about support services at the college and referring them as needed
5) Reviewing the suitability of internships, independent studies and course equivalencies
6) Actively coaching students through the degree process and tracking student progress
7) Representing the Human Biology Program at college-wide fairs
8) Working closely with the director to provide administrative functions such as daily electronic communication with students, phone calls, inputting and organizing student data, monitoring student progress and tracking student groups

Required Academic Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree and one year of experience in advising/ mentoring of undergraduate students; Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
Preferred: Master’s degree and several years of experience in advising/ mentoring of undergraduate students.
Salary: commensurate with experience.
