Research Assistant for ancient biomolecules lab, providing support for the proper maintenance, function and use of this laboratory. The position will be in charge of ordering and maintaining supplies, performing experiments, training students, and generally keeping the lab in good working order.

Specific Responsibilities
Working in the Warinner Lab, the Research Assistant (RA) will be responsible for performing laboratory experiments (protein extraction and processing to MS; DNA extraction and library preparation). The RA will interpret MALDI-TOF and LC-MS/MS spectra. The RA will process, organize, and summarize data into reports and make recommendations to the PI at regular group meetings. The RA will train students in basic, routine laboratory techniques and oversee the quality of student laboratory work, reporting feedback to the PI who supervises them. The RA will make recommendations for student work procedures, and will assist in the design of laboratory experiments and protocols. The RA will also be responsible for basic upkeep and laboratory management (ordering, stocking, and simple accounting duties) of the Warinner laboratory serving up to ~6 undergraduate and graduate students. The RA will handle front line laboratory inquiries, will coordinate shipping/receiving with the building staff, and will coordinate sample dropoff/pickup with core facilities. The RA will oversee recording of incoming and outgoing samples.
Basic Qualifications
College background in related discipline (e.g., biology, biochemistry, biological anthropology) or equivalent work experience.
Additional Qualifications
Laboratory experience in addition to course work required. Demonstrated abilities in laboratory techniques, preferably related to protein mass spectrometry or genetics. Previous experience with mass spectrometry preferred. Previous experience with ancient biomolecules is advantageous, especially LC-MS or ZooMS.
Additional Information
This is a one year term position with the possibility of extension based on availability of continued funding and satisfactory performance.
