Research Assistant – AZ – Anatomy

The Research Assistant provides technical support to Anatomy faculty members in relation to their research projects and grants. Work is performed under the direct supervision of Anatomy faculty members. The position reports to the Chair of the Anatomy department.

Duties and Responsibilities

-Provide basic laboratory support including ordering supplies, maintaining a clean laboratory, collecting data, and keeping an
accurate lab notebook
-Adhere to laboratory safety procedures
-Assist with training of students
-Contribute to abstract submissions, manuscripts, grant administration, and poster preparation
-Perform other duties as assigned

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree from four-year College or University in biological sciences, biomedical sciences, anatomy, anthropology, paleontology, or related field is required. Prior experience with anatomical dissection of specimens, histological preparation, or molecular lab research is preferred. A minimum of 0-2 years of research experience required.

Computer Skills
Computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Prior experience with software for visualizing/analyzing 3D data (examples include AMIRA/AVIZO, ArcGIS, Geomagic, ImageJ or Matlab) digital image analysis; or statistical software (R) is preferred.

Language Skills
Intermediate skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of students or employees of organization.

Reasoning Ability
Intermediate skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Mathematical Ability
Intermediate skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision correctable to 20/40 in one eye, close vision, color vision, and depth vision, especially for using microscopes.
