Institute of Human Origins/School of Human Evolution and Social Change: Postdoctoral Fellow

The Paleoecology Lab in the Institute of Human Origins and School of Human Evolution and Social Change at Arizona State University is recruiting one Postdoctoral Research Scholar in paleoecology under the supervision of Dr. Denise Su. The postdoctoral research scholar will be contributing to a project on testing paleoecological hypotheses with modern ecological data. This project is a collaboration between Su and the Greater Mahale Ecosystem Research and Conservation project (GMERC). The successful candidate will be using ecological data collected by GMERC to examine the relationships between modern mammal communities and environmental factors and testing hypotheses about the paleoecology of Australopithecus afarensis at Laetoli, a Pliocene site in Tanzania.

This is a full-time, fiscal-year, term-limited 1-year position, which may be renewable for a second year, contingent on funding and satisfactory performance. Applicants must be within five years of receipt of their Ph.D. to be considered. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2022 but may be earlier.

Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in anthropology, biology, geology or a related field by the time of appointment.

Desired qualifications include experience in ecological modeling, such as ecological niche modeling; demonstrated knowledge of African Plio-Pleistocene and/or modern faunal communities; demonstrated knowledge of mammalian ecology and/or behavior.
