The Center for Anatomical Sciences in the Department of Physiology and Anatomy at the University of North Texas Health Sciences Center in Fort Worth, TX invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position in evolutionary, functional, and/or clinical anatomy. We seek an outstanding, broadly-trained anatomist whose research program will complement existing program strengths in biomechanics, functional morphology, evolutionary biology, paleoanthropology/paleontology, human variation, and movement/cognitive neuroscience. While the research area is open, applicants with programs in postcranial biomechanics or neuroanatomy are particularly encouraged to apply. Research laboratory space and competitive start-up funds are available.

The successful applicant will 1) have an active record of research and scholarship, 2) demonstrate a history/potential of obtaining external funding, 3) be able to create research opportunities for anatomy graduate (MS/PhD) students, and 4) possess previous experience teaching dissection-based human gross anatomy. Applicants will ideally have a PhD or equivalent degree in hand by September 1, 2022, but exceptional ABD candidates will be considered.

The new hire will contribute to lecture and laboratory instruction of cadaver-based human gross anatomy courses for medical, physical therapy, physician assistant, and graduate students. Teaching abilities in histology, embryology, or neuroanatomy are desirable, but not required. Faculty may additionally develop undergraduate and graduate-level elective courses in their area of expertise. The hire will also be expected to mentor anatomy graduate students (MS, PhD).

The Center for Anatomical Sciences is home to the BioSkills of North Texas Laboratories, a new 8,000-square-foot facility supporting anatomical research, education, and outreach. The Center additionally houses dedicated laboratories and equipment for histology, 3D morphometrics, thermoregulatory studies (climate chamber), material properties testing, and fossil preparation. The Center is closely allied with both the Center for Human Identification (forensic genetics and anthropology) and the Human Movement Performance Laboratory on the UNTHSC campus.
