Assistant Professor, Medical Anthropology

The Department of Anthropology at The University of Akron seeks a cultural or biological anthropologist with expertise in medical anthropology to join our expanding undergraduate program. This tenure-track Assistant Professor position starts in August 2024. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Anthropology or equivalent terminal degree at the time of hire. This position carries a typical teaching load of 9 credit hours per semester. Candidates must apply through the Careers at UA website.

Applicants should demonstrate their ability to teach medical anthropology, as well as courses in anthropological theory and methods, and upper-division undergraduate courses within their areas of research interest. Preference will be given to candidates whose research advances our understanding of health disparities, social and environmental justice, or displaced populations. The candidate will also be expected to maintain and advance active collaboration with campus and community partners.

The Department of Anthropology has five full-time faculty members and offers an undergraduate B.A. degree in Anthropology, a minor in Anthropology, and a Certificate in Field Archaeology. Traditional departmental strengths are undergraduate research, hands-on and experiential learning.
