Anthropology Instructor – Chino Campus

This is a full-time, tenure-track anthropology instructor position in the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences. The college is seeking an individual who is capable of teaching introductory anthropology courses and who possesses expertise in biological anthropology and/or bioarcheology. Under the direction of the Dean, the teaching assignment for the full-service week may include (but is not limited to) the following: Introduction to Biological Anthropology, Biological Anthropology Laboratory, Introduction to Archaeology, and Introduction to Social/Cultural Anthropology, as well as participate in any other professional responsibilities as identified under 18.2.3 of the faculty agreement. Although the assignment is primarily at the Chino Campus, classes at the Fontana or Rancho Cucamonga campuses may be possible per contract and need.

• Teach assigned courses in a manner consistent with the department’s standards and with the contents cited in the approved course outlines.
• Remain current in the subject matter areas and in the techniques of effective instruction.
• Participate in course and curriculum design and development, in student advisement, in program review, and in district/college/school committees as required to maintain and improve the instructional program.
• Advise students for classroom success, career choices, and transition to four-year institutions of higher learning.
• Perform other assigned tasks for the benefit of the college, the community, and the profession.

• Master’s degree in anthropology or archaeology; OR
• Bachelor’s degree in either of the above AND a master’s degree in sociology, biological sciences, forensic sciences, genetics, or paleontology; OR
• Possession of a valid Lifetime California Community College credential authorizing service as an instructor in anthropology; OR
• The equivalent (District equivalency form must be submitted at the time of application);
• Clear evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Preference will be given to those candidates who establish the highest level of professional competency as evidenced by any or all of the following:
• Possession of a master’s degree or Ph.D. in anthropology.
• Demonstrated expertise in biological anthropology and/or bioarcheology and the ability to teach this topic in an evolutionary context.
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching a variety of introductory anthropology courses to both majors and non-majors at the college level.
• Two (2) years of recent teaching experience in college-level anthropology.
• Demonstrated depth of knowledge and technical skills in a broad spectrum of modern anthropological subject matter.
• A history of research activities or other professional activities that demonstrate ongoing, active commitment to the scientific endeavor.
• Evidence of effective contribution to collaborative team effort in an academic setting.
• Evidence of appreciation and respect for students and their role and responsibility in the learning process.
• Demonstrated commitment to active involvement in the full range of professional and leadership roles expected of a community college professor.
• Demonstrated commitment to the philosophy and mission of the community college.

Based upon the minimum and/or desirable qualifications stated in this position announcement, the initial salary placement range is $56,573 (minimum qualifications) to $88,308 (doctorate). Placement is based on the regular full-time faculty salary schedule and is dependent upon verification of relevant experience and coursework from a regional or nationally accredited institution of higher learning.

The Selection Process

Chaffey College, one of the first colleges to be established in California, is a two-year public community college situated in an area of natural and tranquil beauty in Southern California.
