Faculty Anatomy
Located in a wooded residential area of Des Moines, Iowa, the Department of Anatomy at Des Moines University is currently seeking qualified applicants for a Faculty Anatomy position (open rank).
Anatomy Department faculty engage our graduate health sciences students in a dynamic evidence-based discipline that fosters a professional environment of scholarly activity and service. Offering courses in gross anatomy, histology, embryology and neuroanatomy, the Anatomy Department provides the foundation for basic medical sciences and is the keystone of physical diagnosis. Faculty members also teach and mentor students as part of our Masters of Science in Anatomy program.
The candidate will be hired as a tenure track (basic science or pedagogical research) or non- tenure track (teaching-focused) position. The Anatomy faculty member will teach or function as course coordinator for one or more subjects within the curriculum and participate in academic governance responsibilities; tenure-track candidates will additionally seek extramurally funded independent research. Compensation and lab start up costs are funded by the university and are not dependent on grant funding.
Qualifications: an earned doctorate from an accredited university in a relevant field is required; postdoctoral experience preferred; record of teaching experience in anatomical sciences; demonstrated or potential for successful independent scholarly activity including ability to sustain extramurally funded research program, if applicable; an excellent communicator both verbally and in writing; basic PC knowledge and skills. We are especially interested in candidates who can teach neuroanatomy and histology. Gross anatomy experience is also highly desirable.
