Assistant Professor

The Department of Anthropology in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Washington invites applications for a full-time tenure-track assistant professor position in biocultural anthropology, beginning September 16, 2017. A PhD, or foreign equivalent, in anthropology by appointment start date, demonstrated teaching ability, and evidence of a successful research program are required. We seek applicants with an active research program in the human evolutionary biology of living populations, who can contribute to our department’s new Human Evolutionary Biology undergraduate program. Possible areas of focus include, but are not limited to: social behavior, nutrition, immune function, reproductive ecology, energetics, life history, resource security, health, race and ethnicity, migration, and health disparities. We particularly encourage applications from individuals with laboratory-based biomarker research and/or field research with a commitment to interdisciplinary work, who could build ties across campus with other units (e.g. Center for Studies in Demography and Ecology, Department of Biology, Center for Statistics and the Social Sciences). Teaching responsibilities include four courses per academic year across three quarters at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in the Biocultural Anthropology program. Successful candidates will be committed to helping students from diverse backgrounds thrive in academic spaces and must demonstrate strong commitment to diversity, access, and inclusion in their research, teaching, and service.
