Overview: 3D data is revolutionising vertebrate palaeontology, anthropology and comparative anatomy, with a proliferation of 3D imaging methods and datasets. Workflows for efficient processing, study and archiving can greatly facilitate 3D research projects, save time, and ensure repeatability and future access to important anatomical research data. Currently, it is left of individual researchers to figure this out from first principles, with little sharing of experience or best practise. Nevertheless, Morphosource is emerging as a powerful tool for 3D data sharing that connects researchers and research data with museums and specimen data in a single platform. In this workshop, we will look at best practices spanning the complete process from 3D data acquisition and analysis to archiving and sharing after publication, sharing experiences and discussing the varied requirements of different research projects – with a short presentation by Roger Benson on the TEMPO project, which digitised more than 1,000 extant tetrapod skeletons. Doug Boyer will review the meaning of FAIR (Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, and Reuse of digital assets) principles when applied to 3D anatomical research data, and how the Morphosource platform can be used to make 3D data work for you throughout your research project.
